The Lauterbrunnen Valley is the most impressive glaciated valley in the Alps and comprises one of the largest nature-protected areas in Switzerland.  With its 72 waterfalls, picturesque pastures and pure mountain air, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is a unique near-to-nature experience and the old world charm of the village mixed with the spectacular mountain scenery and the many visitor attractions and excursions makes it perfect for an alpine summer holiday.

Wengen offers a super location for walking and hiking, with an extensive range of well signed walks in and around the village with spectacular views down the Lauterbrunnen valley. Within the area there are over 500km of sign-posted hiking trails to suit all abilities.

In summer Wengen hosts the renowned Mendelssohn Music Week in August and the Jungfrau Marathon in September. Other events include a spring festival on Mannlichen in June when tradition and folklore are celebrated with alphorns, dancing, folk songs, yodelling and flag throwing. Throughout the summer other activities include swimming, tennis, walking, mountain biking, paragliding, ice climbing, mini golf, mountaineering, trottibiking and folklore/cultural events.

If you have the time to explore further afield, explore the bustling town of Interlaken and beyond the emerald lakes of Brienzersee and Thunersee where lake steamers provide a day out to the far reaches of the lakes, including the characterful village of Iseltwald and the town of Thun. Within easy travelling distance of Interlaken is the village of Meiringen (of Sherlock Holmes and meringue fame) and the open air museum of Ballenburg, where historic buildings from all over Switzerland have been assembled for you to explore and enjoy.

Other attractions include a wonderful scenic day trip on the Goldenpass express train to Montreux via Gstaad or visiting the historic city of Berne with its many clock towers and array of shops and boutiques under covered arcades. Train, boat and postal bus provide excellent public transport and English is widely spoken in the region, making public transport easy and enjoyable.
